Windows 7 Access Denied error on C: share when Administrator
When connecting to a Windows 7 PC over the network using SMB, you may be able to authenticate successfully but receive an “Access Denied” message when trying to access the C: administrative share.
This can be caused by Simple File Sharing being enabled on Windows 7. You can switch this off using the following steps.
- Launch Windows Explorer.
- Press the Alt key and from the Tools menu, select "Folder Options...".
- In the window that appears, select the "View" tab.
- Scroll to the end of list of options and clear the checkbox "Use Sharing Wizard (Recommended)".
- Click OK to close the window.
- Reboot your PC.
